Ronda Garrett

CSM Criminal Justice Graduate

Ronda Garrett has the rare satisfaction of knowing she can make a difference everyday in her career. Ronda is an officer with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office. Her office is her police car #383.

Ronda began her quest to be an officer in Westlake High School’s Cadet program. After graduation, she went on to pursue her associate’s degree at the College of Southern Maryland in the Criminal Justice program.

“As a police officer, you fill out a lot of reports. You have to be able to clearly document the facts so other people can follow the progression of events. Police officers do more writing than people think. CSM helped me refine my writing skills. I am thankful every day for those writing skills.”

Ronda says there are advantages to being a woman in law enforcement. “When I come into a situation with a big, strong male, there is a change in the demeanor of the man. I am not a threat to his masculinity and therefore, I am able to take control of the situation.”

“I love being out here and not knowing what is going to happen each day.” Ronda enjoys her work and is thankful for her educational experience at CSM, where she was able to make her dream of becoming a police officer a reality.
