Craig Simpson

HVAC
Career Starters

Craig working on a HVAC system.

At 21, Craig Simpson has a lucrative career path ahead of him in the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) field. He’s getting his education through CSM’s HVAC Helper Career Starters training, which will provide him with the advanced skills necessary to take the Maryland State Journeyman exam to become licensed. Simpson likes CSM’s courses, which combine lecture and lab experiences at the Center for Trades and Energy Training in Waldorf where there are highly technical labs for hands-on practice. The HVAC Lab includes heat pumps, oil burners, gas burners, and an HVAC control simulator. “I like it,” said Simpson of CSM’s training. “It’s lots of hands-on in CSM’s own labs.” While Simpson is lucky that his father owns an HVAC business, he still needs the education and experience to achieve his journeyman’s license. And while he could have gone almost anywhere for his training, he chose CSM because it’s close, convenient, and affordable. Simpson has also taken some small engine repair courses and a welding class, which have helped in his current career as an HVAC installer/helper.

CSM offers a wide array of American Welding Society welding certifications, as well. Simpson said he knew some of CSM’s instructors and liked that all construction courses are taught by instructors who have been in the field for many years.
